From 21st April to 1st May EUROFLORA 2011 blossoms in Genoa with spectacular displays of plants and flowers from the five continents.
Excitement is growing in anticipation of Euroflora 2011, scheduled at the Genoa Exhibition Area from 21st April to 1st May.
800 plant and gardening firms, participants from 19 Regions and 16 foreign countries, the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of Ghent as special guest, 500 technical and aesthetic competitions with a total jackpot of 420 thousand euros, focus on flower gardens, vegetable gardens and regeneration of urban green areas.... and much more, at the tenth edition of this event that takes place every five years.
Plants, flowers, colours and essences from every corner of Italy and the whole world will transform the Exhibition Area in a great garden overlooking the sea, which will be capable of stimulating awareness and passion and even surprise a variety of visitors.
Euroflora 2011’s spectacular itineraries will inspire elements of new knowledge while enhancing the excellences of the gardening sector by introducing the preview of new productions as well as displaying some of the most rare specimens.
In the main circular pavilion known as Palasport, five biotypes will be accurately recreated: the desert, the Mediterranean maquis, the lake, the tropical forest and “guided nature”. The succulent cactus, the palm tree typical of the oasis, the grand azalea, the one-hundred-year-old olive tree standing on Sardinian granite rock, the explosively colourful bouganville will all feature together with the wonderful lemon tree, the rose bush, the fern, the garden tree.
Botanical gardens along with a range of peculiar plants will be described and explained from the their origin to their use. The fist ring of the pavilion will contain a gallery of precious bonsai and a sample of municipal gardens.
Outside the Palasport – on the sea side – the public will be able to stroll through a long avenue, planted with outdoor specimens, and reach the Blue Pavilion.
Inside the latter, designed by Jean Nouvel, a system of fountains will divide the ground floor into separate gardens; the dominating scenic element on the higher level will be the central fountain. Form, colours, water games will reflect on the undulated ceiling thus creating a remarkable kaleidoscopic effect.
1.500 geraniums hanging from the railings on the second floor terrace, a total 150 metres overlooking the sea, is the extraordinary colourful sight which will welcome those visitors coming by boat.
The central passage between the Blue Pavilion and Pavilion C will comprise 59 gardens, landscaped by artists which have previously been selected by a special competition.
In rest areas, benches, carpets and playmats for children will be made out of recycled plastic bottles and car tires.
The Green Market will cater for all those wishing to take a “piece” of Euroflora 2011 with them by purchasing plants and flowers, from seller to buyer.
You can play EurofloraGame – a virtual flower arrangement game with prizes to be won - on www.euroflora2011.it - sponsored by Almo Nature, the food-producing firm devoted to natural, cruelty-free products for cats and dogs.
