If you want to learn Italian and, at the same time, to be fully immersed in the culture of Italy, the ‘Bel Paese’, then Genoa is the city for you.
The capital of Liguria has in recent years become one of the most sought-after destinations for the language learner, second only to the great historical cities of Rome, Venice, Milan and Naples.

A Door to Italy – Scuola di Italiano per Stranieri, founded in 2002, is the oldest established Italian language school in Genoa. It specialises in the successful organisation of every aspect of a language holiday, from the course to the accommodation and including additional social activities such as guided tours of the city, visits to museums and different opportunities to enjoy the local culture and the local cuisine and products of Genoa.
All the language courses are offered all year round in our premises, in the heart of the town. The school is based in an elegant and fascinating 19th century building and offers to its students large and sunny classrooms, a balcony, a lounge area with coffee corner and snacks, daily newspapers, free internet points with also WiFi connection, a furnished library and an information point regarding cultural and leisure activities.
A Door to Italy organizes a wide range of Italian language courses and cultural and specialized courses at all levels from beginners to advanced levels as established by the Common European Framework of Languages (from A1 to C2). To asses the level each new student is required to take the entry test, both written and oral during the first day of lessons. The classes are small, with average of 5-6 students per group. This helps to ensure that the students are given personal attention and the opportunity for self expression. Our students come from all over the world, usually in a group there are no more than two students of the same nationality. Different languages and cultural backgrounds make the group and the lessons very interesting and the learning process particularly fast.
A Door to Italy is:
Member of ASILS National Association of Italian Language Schools
Member EDUITALIA Association
Recognized by all the Italian Cultural Institutes in the world (IIC)
Recognized by the Swedish Board CSN, for study grants to students
Recognized by the BILDUNGURLAUB in Germany (Berlin, Hamburg, Hessen), for study grants to workers.
Last but not least a wide range of housing options, from basic accommodation up to the high level solution, to guarantee our students a pleasant stay. All of our accommodation arrangements are carefully selected and continuously monitored by the staff of the school. Accommodation are conveniently located close to the school and in the city centre.

Our school’s long experience in teaching Italian to foreign students is reflected in our high level of accreditation from the University of Genoa and of Siena. Since 1995, IL MONDO’s reputation for a high standard of instruction has grown from humble beginnings, with one room and one teacher, to serving local international business clients.
The school is small, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It is situated in the main street of Genoa, and is easily accessible, not far from the train station and close to any bus stop.
The school provides courses for adult students of all nationalities, ages and interests. In addition to the lessons, the school also serves as a meeting place for students from all over the world.
The courses take place in small groups with never more than eight students to a group. The courses are divided into six levels; a student’s level is established by an entry test and an informal interview.
All courses aim to improve the full range of language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
The teaching method is communicative, designed to encourage students to communicate in Italian from the moment they begin the course. The lessons are conducted entirely in Italian, to speed up the learning process.
Outside our lessons we can offer a rich programme of extra-curricular activities starting from welcome “aperitivo” to visits to museums, historical sites and the theatre. Students can attend conferences on a variety of subjects ( Italian literature, art history, music, cinema, cuisine, etc.).
Rather than guided tours, our excursions are organized as social occasion to meet teachers and fellow students: enjoy our company!
For students attending courses of 2 weeks or more, we are pleased to find them authentic accommodation in B&B or in a shared flat with fellow students.
The school can assist students in finding bed and breakfast accommodation, short term apartment rentals, or hotels.(different prices!)
Those hoping to put their studies into practice and find a means to extend their visit to Genova, can find an au pair placement with our help.
