"Genoa for tourists" has opened up to new forms of tourism, targeted at a younger and more enthusiastic public, which considers trips as special tools to enrich one’s knowledge and experience.

It is not by chance that every year Genoa hosts an important event on this theme, the Borsa del Turismo Scolastico e Studentesco (the School and Students’ Tourism Show), today included in the Salone Italiano dell’Educazione (the Italian Education Show)

This strong focus has led to the development of a school tourism project promoted by the City Promotion Department and currently managed by the Urban Marketing Office.

One of the key features of this project is the cooperation with the vocational high school for tourism Firpo, which has created the profile of the “cicerone-student”, whereby the students of Istituto Firpo show their visiting colleagues around the city, sharing some of our culture and traditions with them, providing a welcoming and supporting service to visiting schools, and taking advantage of this opportunity to gain experience and effectively approach the tourist sector, in which many of them will probably build their career.

Thanks to their special guides, visiting students and schools are given the opportunity to find their way through a real labyrinth of tiny lanes (the famous “carruggi”) where they can find anything they like: from folklore to shop windows full of second-hand and ancient objects, from different ethnic communities and restaurants to super-modern shops, and then the colours, smells, and sounds typical of historical sea towns; and, obviously, loads of precious works of art which you will have to take some time to discover, because it really takes a second to get lost in the endless sea of alleys

Genoa can by no means be understood in a day: if you are caught in the net of its charm, you will keep coming back. To help you not get lost, here you can find an unusual welcoming system – unusual like our city!
