Genoa, undoubtedly a historical city, has invested on becoming also a modern conference hub particularly over the last few years, when several key areas in the city centre have been extensively restored. This has allowed to create special venues - state-of-the-art buildings surrounded by incredibly scenic settings -, capable of meeting any possible needs for national and international conferences and events.
The convention tourism is promoted by Convention Bureau Genova, a pool of 50 firms, which runs all the services related to events and meetings (i.e. hotel accommodation, conference rooms, catering, incentive and all the backing activities).
The two main congress centres are located in the most charming and prestigious districts of Genoa: the Old Port - Cotone Congressi and inside the Palazzo Ducale (see further), Ducale, organizzazione eventi.
Genoa’s Old Port area was “given back” to the city and its inhabitants thanks to Renzo Piano’s architectural work. In particular, the Magazzini del Cotone (the former cotton warehouses) have been turned in a unique venue, which can be adapted to meet the needs of both national and foreign customers thanks to their architectural features and central location, close to the airport, railway stations, hotels, and many cultural landmarks.
The Magazzini del Cotone extend over an 8,500 sq m surface. The exhibition areas cover four floors and include as many as 11 halls having different sizes.
Various modules can be used for catwalks and exhibitions, to set up internet centres, small shows, workshops, and catering areas (hosting up to 3,000 people), as well as to arrange parallel, ancillary meeting rooms.
Palazzo Ducale (the Ducal Palace), studded into the very heart of Genoa, has lived through centuries of history, during which it was the seat of the Republic and the residence of the Doge. Following a ten-year restoration, the palace is now not only a historical building, but first and foremost a lively centre where cultural and social events for the city and the surrounding territory are organised and held.
The Palace harmoniously combines exhibition areas - perfectly set within a prestigious historical setting - conference and concert halls, restaurants and bars, and shops related to the region’s traditions and culture.
The halls available for cultural activities and conferences are equipped with multimedia systems, video projectors and booths for simultaneous interpretation.
Thanks to its state-of-the-art technological facilities and a wide range of services capable of meeting any organisation needs, Palazzo Ducale is the ideal location for exhibitions, socio-cultural and marketing events, shows, and entertainment and communication events.
Moving east, towards the Foce district (at the mouth of Genoa’s river), one can find Genoa’s large fair & exhibition centre, Fiera di Genova.
Fiera di Genova hosts prestigious international trade fairs and shows, like Genoa International Boat Show and Euroflora, and also include Fieracongressi, a large congress centre. The congress centre is located inside the NFA building (Ship Repair Area) and includes the “Liguria Hall”, seating 880 people, the “Riviera Hall” (150 seats), and another five halls seating from 12 to 110 people, as well as a large foyer and a terrace overlooking the dockyards.
